We are excited to be part of another significant redevelopment project.  As part of JFK Millennium Partners (“JMP”), the preferred partner of Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Vantage has been selected to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain Terminal 6 and 7 at John F. Kennedy (“JFK”) International Airport. For this project, Vantage has partnered with American Triple I (ATI), a 100% minority and woman owned investor and developer, and RXR Realty, a leading New York commercial real estate development firm, with AECOM Hunt as the design-build team. The project is to proceed in two phases of construction, with the first phase to include the development of the new Terminal 6 headhouse and departures area on a vacant site adjacent to the existing Terminal 7.  Once that has been completed, JMP will demolish the existing Terminal 7 and construct an additional five gates, after which, JMP would then manage, operate and maintain the new facilities.

 

Manager, Community Outreach and MWBE

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Communications on the JFK Terminal 6 & 7 Redevelopment Project, the Manager, Community Outreach and MWBE will forge and main strong relationships with the communities served by JFK through community relations and leading outreach efforts specifically targeting minority and women – owned businesses (MWBE), schools and local institutions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements ongoing community outreach strategies and programs designed to optimize effective two-way communication with various groups and organizations
  • Establishes programs and services that address the needs and concerns of surrounding airport communities through opportunities such as youth programs, aviation education, volunteerism, and community and civic participation
  • Engages senior leaders and key project stakeholders to develop relationships that creates champions for the outreach objectives and promotion of MWBE initiatives and can actively leverage these networks to support established goals and KPIs
  • Participate in working groups, task forces, and forums on MWBE issues, and ensure the visibility of the project MWBE activity throughout the MWBE stakeholder community
  • Handles liaison activities with community-based organizations
  • Organizes promotional events
  • Writes and edits external communications
  • Manages relationships with local community, businesses, and government officials on behalf of JMP
  • Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position may be assigned

Education and qualifications

  • A certificate or diploma in Communications, Community Relations, Community Consultation or a related field.
  • At least 5 years related work experience in community relations or outreach, professional writing and/or communications.
  • Proven track record of success in community outreach programming.
  • Ability to collaborate with all levels of the organization and key internal and external stakeholders
  • Leadership skills needed for creating strategies, leading meetings, and planning new opportunities
  • Organization and planning skills crucial for multi-tasking while prioritizing and executing tasks.
  • Ability to diffuse and manage situations in high pressure situations. 
  • Can manage the process of idea to execution.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to independently work with clients, vendors, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong business, political and financial acumen.
  • Special Working Conditions: This position may be required to work nights, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays and includes some travel.

 

ABOUT YOU

 

You have strong project management experience, and your professional experience is supplemented by a relevant degree from an accredited university.  You are a collaborative team player who is community driven, enjoys working independently, is self-motivated, enthusiastic and comfortable working with a diverse set of stakeholders. You are calm under pressure, and deftly apply your practical experience, technical expertise, and innovative ideas to the success of the project.

 

Additionally, you have:

  • Strong research, writing and editing skills
  • Solid understanding of the importance of message development and delivery
  • Strong communication skills for interactions with the public, media and all levels of management
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask in a busy work environment
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Solid knowledge of social media tools and applications
  • A preference for working with an entrepreneurial, fast-paced team
  • Demonstrated business acumen coupled with strategic, analytical and creative skills
  • An ability to manage multiple projects, while staying on budget and delivering on time without compromising quality
  • A passion for learning
  • Knowledge of the borough of Queens, New York community is an asset
